At the beginning of autumn 2018, without waiting for the start of the Paris Motor Show, the Skoda company disclosed information about its new model – Skoda Kodiaq RS, which is a “heated” version of the usual Kodiaq. The official premiere of the novelty, as planned, took place in early October in the capital of France.

Skoda Kodiaq RS 2019

In comparison with the “civilian” version of the crossover, its charged modification received a slightly corrected appearance, a slightly modernized interior, and a high-performance diesel engine, which migrated here from the related Volkswagen Tiguan.

The manufacturer proudly claims that the new Kodiaq RS is the fastest 7-seater car to cross the Nürburgring North Loop. By the way, in addition to the seven-seater modification, the car is also available in a five-seater configuration.

The target audience of the Skoda Kodiaq RS is active people who are not alien to travel and the love of high speed, while they are not ready to sacrifice practicality and their comfort.

The appearance of the Skoda Kodiaq RS

The exterior of the charged version, like the usual Kodiaq, is based on the conceptual Vision S, shown by the Czech company back in early 2016.

The “muzzle” of the car demonstrates formidable optics with LED filling, a stylish false radiator grille, highly placed foglights, and a muscular front bumper.

The front part of its heated version differs from the usual Kodiaq by the presence of a different pattern of the front air intake and the “VRS” brand nameplate.

The imposing and knocked-down profile of the crossover sports massive wheel arches, almost rectangular in shape, a sloping roofline, expressive sidewalls, and 20-inch Xtreme alloy wheels of a special design, complemented by red brake calipers.

Roof rails are traditionally located on the roof of the car, increasing its loading capabilities.

The feed of the Kodiaq RS almost completely repeats that of the “civilian” Kodiaq: spectacular LED sidelights, an impressive tailgate, and a monumental bumper. The exceptions are a full-width LED reflector, a pair of large trapezoidal exhaust pipes, and a “VRS” badge on the boot lid.

The ground clearance height is declared at around 194 mm, which, together with the “off-road” geometry, provides good cross-country ability. But the future owner is unlikely to want to meddle on a heated RS-ke off-road since a special all-terrain modification with the “Scout” prefix is more suitable for these purposes.

As with other Kodiaq modifications, the RS version offers customers a wide range of body colors, as well as several wheel design options.

Salon Kodiaq RS

The interior design, apart from a few visual elements, is similar to that of the Kodiaq Sportline. Immediately it is worth noting the excellent build quality and the use of high-quality materials, only a few fall short of premium.

In front of the “pilot” of the car, there is a modern multifunctional steering wheel with a sporty cut off the lower rim, as well as a virtual instrument panel that boasts a special sport mode, when the speedometer and tachometer images are located exactly in the center of the display.

The center panel houses a large 9.2-inch infotainment system monitor with built-in navigation and a laconic air conditioning control unit, represented by several buttons and three multifunctional knobs. Even below there is a row of auxiliary buttons.

Among the distinctive features of the RS are decorative inserts “like carbon”, metal pedals, as well as red stitching and nameplates “VRS” found on the steering wheel, gearshift knob, and seat backs.

For first-row riders, the manufacturer offers first-class sports seats with integrated headrests and pronounced lateral support. I am glad that, despite their sportiness, the seats are equipped with electric adjustments and a multilevel heating system.

Between the front seats, there is a fairly high transmission tunnel, on which the manufacturer has placed a wide armrest with a built-in niche for luggage, as well as a platform with a pre-installed gearbox and several keys responsible for auxiliary functions of the car.

You can also find a 12V outlet, a pair of USB connectors, and a section for wireless charging of a smartphone and other gadgets.

The second row of seats is hospitable for three riders, for whom a separate block of air deflectors, climate control and activation/deactivation of seat heating, as well as a cigarette lighter and a USB port, are preinstalled.

As noted earlier, the car is available not only in five but also in a seven-seater configuration, where the latter is equipped with a third row of seats, which is more suitable for children and adolescents, since there will obviously not be enough headroom for adults.

The trunk volume in the 7-seater configuration is 270 liters, and in the 5-seater – 720 liters. At the same time, it is possible to fold not only the 3rd but also the 2nd row of seats, which allows you to count on a maximum of 2,065 liters of loading space. In the underground of the trunk, you can find a spare tire and a repair kit.

Specifications Skoda Kodiaq RS 2019

Skoda Kodiaq RS 2019

The Skoda Kodiaq RS is powered by a 2-liter BiTDI diesel unit with two turbines, generating 240 hp. and a maximum torque of 500 Nm.

The engine is coupled with an uncontested 7-band robotic gearbox with a 2nd clutch system. All this allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 in 7 seconds, as well as accelerate to the maximum possible 230 km / h, which is very good for a car weighing more than 1.6 tons.

It is also worth noting that despite the impressive power, the Skoda model range has even more powerful cars, namely: the 280-horsepower Skoda Superb and the 245-horsepower Skoda Octavia RS245, exchanging the first hundred in 5.8 and 6.6 seconds. Respectively.

The exact fuel consumption of the “charged” Kodiaq has not been disclosed, but it is unlikely that it is much higher than that of the 190-horsepower “civilian” version of the model, which consumes an average of about 6.1 l / 100 km.

Already in the base, the crossover is equipped with a proprietary 4Motion all-wheel-drive system with a clutch responsible for connecting the rear axle. In addition, the car is able to boast of the presence of the function of imitation of thrust vector control, due to which up to 85% of the total torque can be directed to one of the wheels.

The suspension of the Kodiaq RS is completely independent (MacPherson struts and multi-link, front and rear, respectively).

Unlike the usual Kodiak, the novelty is equipped with original springs and shock absorbers, as well as steering with variable settings.

The braking system of the car is represented by 17-inch disc mechanisms on both axles (ventilated at the front), complemented by calipers painted in bright red.
